“Evgènios Astèris is a Greek author, writing stories for children of any age.”
The above sentence is almost entirely true, except for one important detail: the name. “Evgènios Astèris” is an invented name.
It is a pen name I made up to describe what happens to me whenever I dive into the world of imagination where anyone can talk and whisper and laugh, be they humans or animals, or just teapots and toys.
In those enchanting moments, I find myself dreaming with my eyes wide open, moving an old fountain pen across the pages of a small notebook, continuously printing those small drawings that we fondly call letters, until the moment that I stop, feeling both exhausted and happy.
“Evgènios Astèris” is a strange visitor: always uninvited and always at the most peculiar hours; always absent whenever I desperately call for his presence; and always with a smile and hands brimming with presents whenever he decides to show up.
Any book I have written or will write in the future is a gift from him to both you and me.
I hope you enjoy it.
I did and will always do.
Thank you,
Evgènios Astèris
